About the StringCutters Collective

We are a community of individuals tying communities together to help and support everyone as we all seek out new creative lives.

The strings we help cut are any that hold people back from that reality. We help people find events they'd be interested. If they don't know what they'd be interested in, we will help them find out. If they don't have the time for it, we'll help them find time.

Work to Live, Don't Live to Work

Far too many people put so much effort into basic jobs with very little reward. If you love your job, great! If you're in control of your hours and income, great! But if your manager keeps putting you down for overtime every Saturday, we want to have a word... There are ways to live free of that nonsense.

We're Here for Everyone

Maybe you love your job, but struggling to find a hobby. Maybe you have a hobby but no-one to share it with. Maybe you're struggling with your relationships. Maybe you're struggling with self esteem. Struggling with bullying. Struggling with motivation. With communication. Hell, maybe you're just struggling to get the cat into the bloody cat carrier so you can bring it to the vet after it ate a strobing decorative rubber ducky, and now it's belly is flashing blue and pink. We're here for you, despairing cat owner, give Chairman Meow a hug, wrap him in a towel, and slide the restrained, hissing and flashing burrito into the carrier.

Essentially, we're here to help people handle this reality we all share. That might be just the confidence to turn off the work phone on days off so you can properly disconnect, it might be helping someone develop their artistic capabilities, or even helping someone find alternative sources of income from their hobbies, so that they can do what they truly love.

Who Started This?

The originator of the collective and BDFL, is a man who has been incredibly lucky in life.

I've had most things handed me on a silver platter. Even when struggling, I had extensive support from my background and associates, which meant I have been playing life on easy mode.

Quite frankly, it's not fair.

I want other people to have similar support, and to give people the chance to become who they can be. After being made redundant, I decided I would prefer to work for myself, and have a freelance career. I had that opportunity thanks to the people I knew. I also organise local artistic events for the communities I'm a part of, and was asked to take over and administer another online community, again directly related to the support I gained from people I already knew. I want to share these resources and help people find and build similar supportive communities.

I have a lot of resources at my disposal to make a community work, and to offer support and especially advice, to those who need it. Not necessarily personally, but by bringing in the people who understand these situations and the organisations and processes which can help.

I'm doing my very best to provide actual help, and not just be a privileged middle aged white male nutjob, talking and not listening.
